i just bought a 2001 eclipse gt i and found out the the engine could be junk so i was woundering wut would be the best engine to drop into it that would fit easily. i would love to have a turbocharged engine so tell me thepossiblitys for that. and iam only 16 so go easy on me 4 askin a dumb question im just tring to find sum stuff out

 

someone correct me if im wrong, but i believe the gt has the 6g72, so you should be able to swap in the 6g72tt from the vr4. idk where your gonna find one for a good price tho

 

Well the engine you have is not "junk" does it still run? how many miles? the 6g72(what you have) has some potential and a motor swap will be way to much work and cost way to much at your age...your car will run about 145-150fwhp stock so its not that bad. I say just do a few litte things to improve it such as intake, headers, catback and some basic NA mods...oh and welcome and im only 15 lol.

 

i think thatsa pretty difficult swap...the 6g72 in his car is SOHC while the vr-4 verian is obivously DOHC...there are some major differences...and i like i said it would cost a lot and take alot of work. There is also the 6g74 swap if he has a rich daddy lol.

 

i bought the car at a auction the previous owner hit a deer with it so i got it cheap. when i went to go pick it up it stated right up run 4 about 1 minitue the ran out of gas. went to get gas came back and saw that there was no gas lid or gas cap and it was covered with snow so im pretty sure it has water in the gas tank and havent tried to start it since. my dads a truck driver so hes only home like 2 times ever other week we havent had time to do anything yet. it also has 135000 miles. but i do know that the kid was running it in the begining of this january.

 

so the engine isnt junk then?

 

well we called the kid cause we found his drivers licence and social security number in the car, his mom answered my dad sked about the car and she said it has major engine problems. but i dont know 4 sure im hopein not cause i dont have the money 4 it . cuz i have to stick like 3 grand into the body work so i was just wonder incase it is junk

 

I would stick with the same motor.. Just spend some money in that motor like rods/pistons/head.. It would be cheaper and easier than trying to swap..

 

you cant put nything but the same motor in... you cant swap in a VR4 motor it has been tried many times with no luck.

 

just out of curiosity... why do you think the motor is junk?
