Strange sound under the hood

Strange sound under the hood
Here's a wierd one for you. My 2001 GT spyder has a strange noise under the hood when it's cold. It sounds like when you load up that cooler full of beer and you set it in the back of the SUV and it rubs and vibrates up agains the plastic. It makes this styrofoam sound.
It's coming from the front drivers side. My best guess is that a hose is rubbing agains something on the firewall. It is most noticeable when it's cold and dry out. I originally thought it was the tranny mount right under the battery, but that didnt' appear to have much wear and lubeing it didn't make a difference. I also lubed all the suspension around the front right and the exhaust mounts. No change. It's more apparent when it's cold and idealing high and it's in gear.
Got any suggestions.
Thanks,
~Steve

RE: Strange sound under the hood
No, it's not a high pitched sound, more like something iradically (sp?) rubbing. Metal on rubber or plastic. It's just irritating. I figured out yesterday that with the engine off, you can grab the finder by the driver's side front wheel and shake the body up and down and hear it slightly. Mind you the suspension is very tight and it doesn't move much.
Got any other suggestions?

RE: Strange sound under the hood
i say its the side engine mount or tranny mount. its not the belts b/c the belts are on the passenger side and the sound is coming from the driver side.
if an engine mount is gone bad, lubing it won't help. you will need to replace it.
