Uh... no they arent lol. Tiptronic is NOTHING like a full auto and the Ferrari tip trannys suck *** IMO
I hate tiptronice because they are more than often jerky on upshifts and they take FOREVER to downshift not to mention sometimes upshifting isnt that fast either. The only tiptronic or 'Semi-Auto' car i would ever ever drive would have to be the new VW GTI because it has a twin clutch system. So one clutch is for gears 1-3-5 and the other is for 2 and 4. So when you want to upshift the clutch has already selected the next gear waiting to be engaged. It can also sence if you are going to downshift or continue to accelerate so even the downshifts are smooth and fast. The other good Semi-Auto tranny is the one made by Lambo 'E-Gear'
In conclusion, most forms of tiptronic trannys suck and will be slower than a real manual. Unless you own one of the new VW ones.

My car is tiptronic and it's fantastic. I'm asking out of curiosity and to settle dicussions with friends who drive stick. I'm not concerned with anyones opions, you drive what you wanna drive and I"ll do the same. Time trial times is the only way to settle this dicussion and I can't seem to find times for tiptronic. And for those of you that think having the car in automatic is the same as driving in Tiptronic then give your head a shake. There is a night and day difference. While driving in auto it shifts at about 3500rpm, driving tip I redline it to 6100rpm and get a significant performance gain.
Just the facts please.

Lets be sensible here, I'm not on a race track and could care less about a .002 increase in time during a 1/4 mile race. On the other hand if the test results I'm looking for show that there is a 1 second lag during a 1/4 mile race then I need to rethink my next car purchase.

The Sporty Trans IS a automatic. No argument sebba it is. It is no different then shift from L 2 D on a regular auto it just makes it easier to do so. They are much slower than 5 spds actually to because those trannys draw alot of power drag and slow you down. For example Tearstones car ran a 14.1 a few years back with his turbo kit and Mike Rulez ran a 13.4 on the same setup except 5 spd and he had a fed spec. So over a half second difference on the 2 even though the fed spec is gonna be faster but not by much.
