hey i been racing around for a while now in my city and idk i been improving on my shifting and throttle response but when i race anything with a turbo it smokes my 3g v6 eclipse gt i get them off the line but that turbo kicks in and its no contest after that what r some cheap ways to gain hp or should i just turbo it and if turbo is the route how should i go about that can someone point me in a direction???? i already have a aem cold air intake and a Greddy cat back exhaust system

 

I have the same car and have been reading up on turboing my 3g v6. what i was going to do is rebuild my motor so it could withstand the turbo with just forged internals, then buy the turbo setup, but that is going to cost alot of money. i do know that the 3000 gt came with the same 6g72 motor that our cars have, except those are twin turboed. you could do a swap from one of them, just get the ecu and everything, it should mount up to the stock transmission. but with those motors they came with needle bearing turbo's, so i would recomend before you would mod out that motor too much, to replace the turbo's with ball bearing ones.

another route you could go is alot cheaper, leave the car N/A and put a fidanza aluminum flywheel on, you wont get a whole lot out of it, but you will get off the line and through the gears faster and it will top out at around 145-150 mph

 

ok what about any other upgrades

 

All the bolt on stuff that is available for this car won't get you that much.

The only thing you're going to gain from is either boost, or high compression. Both of which would cost more than the car is worth.

 

they will give it some, but not much. like a aluminum flywheel may give you an extra 10 mph in top end. and boosting the car will cost more than the value, but if its worth it then i say dont worry about money. just make sure you build the motor right to handle the boost.

 

the thing is i love my 3G il never sell it unles i can get a crazy deal on a supra or a evo i love the body style and everything im just pissed mitsubishi did the eclipse dirty by ripping the turbos off ofter 2000 ;( idk i think imma just turbo it but r u !00 percent sure that the 300gt ant the gt eclipse share the same engine cause i can just search for turbos for that car and do it big ???? or where would i go to find out that info????

 

i know i love my 3G too. im about 99% sure that they are. Both use the same block i know, which is the 6G72 block, but the intake manifolds and stuff are different. since it is the same block im pretty sure the transmission will bolt up, unless you want to do an AWD swap like the 3000gt has. i have found a few websites that have talked about it, but otherwise i havn't found a whole lot. When i was looking into internals for my car is when i found out that 3000gt and the 3G eclipse has the same block. im not doing it to mine since its going to cost more than i can afford so im just leaving it N/A. i thought about taking the turbo setup off the 3000gt and seeing if i can get it to work on my car, i know you would most likly need new manifolds, ect. then i thought it might be easier to just swap the whole engine, then put upgraded turboes on it.

The last thing you want to do is start playing with the 3000GT drivetrain. That design is quite possibly the worst creation to ever come out of Mitsubishi.

 

i was thinking of just using the 3g transmission if it will bolt up. i know the needle bearings on the 3000gt's are junk, and that you should put ball bearing turbo's on instead. but thats about all i really read into, just that its the same block. im pretty sure they take teh same crank, so if your going for power and decide to use the 3000gt motor, i would do a rebuild with better internals.
