Question Where is the FUEL FILTER on a 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder 2.4L, 2 DR Conve

Can anyone tell me where the Fuel Filter is? I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder 2.4L, 2 DR Convertible. The mechanic shop said it looks like the computer is bad, but I am thinking maybe it's the fuel filter? The car dies out, once in a while, sitting at a stop light or accelerating to go up a hill or pas a vehicle ... not every time, but just once passing a semi truck and the car stalls out could be bad news.

It might be in the gas tank...

What lead them to believe the computer is bad?

The mechanic said its a screen in the gas tank and they rarely go bad. The car would stall out and die at a stop sign, or upon acceleration like on a freeway on ramp. Doesn't do it every time, just every now and then. The other day my daughter was going onto the interstate with a big 18 wheeler behind her and the car died out ... had to pull off the on-ramp, sit a minute and started up again. Seems like it always starts back up. Did this also in the mountains going up a hill on a 2 lane hwy ... Getting to be dangerous.

Unless your mechanic has a good reason (some kind of test he did and can offer to you) that the computer is bad I would go to another mechanic.

It's possible your fuel pump is going bad, I don't think a clogged filter would be that intermittent though anything is possible....

Is the check engine light on or anything? Did he scan for codes? What did he actually do to come to this conclusion?

The engine light was on. The first mechanic shop showed a bad oxygen sensor and another sensor so took them out and it tested fine. They also traced the wires and they were good. They said the computer is giving false codes so said must be the computer. The next mechanic shop scanned the code and said oxygen sensor and catalitic converter showed up. He drove the car and could not get it to stall. He said bring it back in when engine light comes on again and will scan the code again ...

Did he happen to mention what code the O2 sensor was throwing?
Did they look at the freeze frame data and fuel trims?

I'd have a hard time trusting a mechanic that said the computer was bad based on only that... Will he eat the cost if he's wrong?

Did he put it on a lift and run it up to speed for a bit and see if he could cause the problem?

Did he check the fuel pressure?

Fuel filter part of fuel pump assembly. In gas tank under rear seat.
