I have a 2001 eclipse gs. i have never had any problems with it until last night. i am driving down the highway and when i get off the exit ramp i hit a light and then my engine just shut off on me. It is idoling at about 700rpms which is when i start it. After about 15 seconds it shuts off on me. Can anybody tell me whats wrong with that? [:@]

 

Only thing i can think of would be ECU or something computer related. Any check engine lights?

 

nope, the check light did not turn on. I thought is was the spark plugs but its not that either. Any other ideas?

 

check the battery maybe

 

Check your belts, and if they are fine check to see if your alterator or however your spell it is recharging your battery. You can just go to some car shop like advance auto parts or something and they can test your battery and the alterator to see if thats the problem.

 

Also you said it idles at 700 RPM and then shuts off? Does it do this on warmup? If so you may have the idle set too low. It should run at around 1500 RPM when you first start the car until warm. Then it should drop to approximately 700 RPM. Sounsd like you're low anyways.

 

do you have an aftermarket air intake??

 

everything is fine in my engine that i can see. my belts are fine and the battery is new. I do have an CAI and a catback. would that make a difference?

 

Yes is idols at 700 when i start the car up. And then after a few seconds if i dont hit the gas it will shut off.

 

if thats the case, i would say try adjusting the BISS screw on top of the throttle body and see if that helps.
