Default Convertible Top Issues

My fiancée has an 07 spyder and for a while when she’d put the top down it would stop and she would have to wait about 7 min or so then the top would go down the rest of the way. Now she’s having problems with the top closing. The other day I was trying to close the top and it would stop half way I would have to let off the button and then hit it again to finish closing it. Even once we had to manually help the top while holding the closing button. I can still hear the electric motor run and it sounds fine but the top is moving slow. Has anyone had this issue or be able to help point me in the right direction?

ASC (American Sunroof Company) still makes the tops for the Eclipse. I had the 97 spyder and had the motors on the top replaced 3 times. Some fault with the cylinders that raise and lower the top. the repairs on my 97 were covered under the warranty all 3 times.

The top on your 07 uses the same motors and may be having the same problems. However, given your vehicle is an 07, the dealer may not fix it under warranty. Ask anyway, they may do the repairs at no cost.

Just so you know, even though the top is power operated, it can be operated manually as well. So, don't fret if the motors burn out or become really slow. Just raise or lower the top by hand and fasten the latches.

Hope that helped.

Thanks that did help a lot. I check on her warranty with a dealer and they did indicate that the warranty is still valid. So we're taking it up tomorrow for them to look at the top. They did say that the top is covered under the warranty. I guess 07 eclipses have a 5 year 60,000 mile basic warranty. Thanks for the input and the help.

Ok so I took the spyder up to the dealership yesterday to get the top motor looked at. Once we go there the service department looked it over and found that the motor was fine. Apparently the electric motor has a hydraulic valve that keeps pressure in the motor and allows the top to move up and down. Well in my case the valve had gotten lose somehow and wouldn’t allow pressure build up. Once the service department fixed that the top works just like new. So I hope this helps anyone else out there with the same problem.

Default Top Wore Out in 5 Years

My 2007 Spyder top goes up and down like a champ, but the surface has simply started to wear out. It has tears and wear spots.

I do not keep it in a garage, but 5-years seems pretty quick for a convertible top to wear out.

Anyone else had a similar experience?
