Has anyone had a locksmith sucessfully program a key for an 06
I bought an 06 Eclipse from a guy I know because he had problems with the key being hard to turn sometimes and he ended up breaking the fob off of the key then lost the circuit board that was inside the fob which contained the transponder. Now the car cranks but doesn't start and my code scanner confirms that it's an immobilizer issue. I am 100 miles from the nearest Mitsubishi dealership so that's not an option. A locksmith near me said for $125 he will program a new key if I order one and have it cut ahead of time, he recommended a specific website for an oem quality key. My concern is that he said if the programming doesn't work that I still have to pay the full $125 and I read on another forum that a locksmith can't do it because a special code has to be purchased for each one and the programmer they use isn't capable. I have seen videos on youtube of people doing these with a smartpro programmer which is what he has so i'm confused. Can someone confirm that a locksmith has been able to program theirs when they didn't have a working key to use? I wanted to just buy a key, matching lock cylinder, and ECU, but couldn't find one from a car made before 1/31/06 so I think this is my next best option. I don't have enough money to shell out for the hackish fix, tactrix cable, etc.
Thanks
