Default IAT sensor resistor, good or bad idea?

Has anyone with a 4G put a resistor in their air intake temperature sensor and actually got any gains from it? I was thinking about trying it but I heard it is really only a good thing to do at the track rather than a long term idea...???

If you got this idea from ebay, just stay away from it.

Yea that's what I was thinking too. I have heard and read about people actually losing power and MPG's for trying this. Didn't sound like a good idea to me. Thanks for the input guys.
