Noob with a 4g
Hey everyone,
I've been lurking here for a while, trying to soak up some knowlidge, but this is my first post. I've got an '07 Eclipse GT, and I've got my heart set on smoking everything on the road with it. (And not just in a straight line, either!) Unfortunatly, I'm having a hell of a time finding performance parts. I also am not much of a mechanic, and while I'm getting a lot of creative input from some friends who are, none of them have any direct experiance with this particular car. Now here's the fun part: In about 5 months, I'll be leaving for Iraq with the US Army. When I get back, I'm gonna have a hefty chunk of change that I haven't been spending, what with the shortage of good bars over there. Before I leave I think I'm going to concentrate on suspension, I just got a set of Eibach ProKit coil springs and I'll be putting them on tomorrow hopefully. When I get back, I'm gonna need to think up a way to turn say, ten grand into extra horses. Any suggestions? I'm looking for good places to buy parts for this car, parts for previous models that are interchangable, parts/mods to stay away from, parts/mods people have had luck with, etc. Everything I want to do to it is performance oriented, I'm not too interested in body kits and grills and whatnot. Thanks for looking,
-Dave

I take it you dont give a flying f*** about your warrenty. Neither would i lol.
Anyways, the reason you cant find any performance parts is because there isnt any. Its a new model... its going to take a while

The warranty is nice, but yeah, going fast is nicer, haha. I've been hoping I was just looking in the wrong places, but what you said seems pretty true. Hopefully by the time I get back thatwill have changed. In the mean time, what do you think about a CAI? I'd looked at the dyno sheets on roadraceengineering.com for their AEM and Injen intakes andtheyseemed promising, but reading up on it here I'm getting the impression that a CAI on a 4g is a waste of money.
That's a shame, I was hoping for a cheap 12 or 13 horsepower. I've found a couple places that make turbo kits for the 4g, but they're all custom jobs and don't even list prices on their websites.I think that's a nice way of telling me I can't afford it. Seems like suspension is the way to go for now. While I've got your attention, what are some other good ways to make my car stick to the ground better? Are sway bars better than strut tower bars? Should they be used together? Will 8.5" wide wheels pose a problem with a 1.5" drop? Anything else I'm blatantly overlooking?
Your on the right track thats for sure. Light rims, good brakes, good suspension and yes the s&t bars will make a fair difference too.
Well the turbo kit i dont think is that bad. Maybe 5k. Do you have a link to what you are looking at?

The company I ran across first I found through this website, indirectly. There was a link to a cardomain site, some guy had a twin turboed 4g, and he said the turbos were done by http://turbochargersystems.com/. They don't have an online shop or anything, my guess is it's all done to order. horsepowerfreaks.com has some turbos for the car, and some turbo related parts, but no full kits, and to be honest I couldn't tell you off hand everything I would need for it. Also RRE has forged piston heads for the GS, but not for my car.
I actually have to go make it look like I'm working for a bit, so if you're not online anymore when I get back, thanks a million for the advice and pointing me in the right direction. You've already set me straight on several things I was on the fence about.
That sucks man. Maybe some of the other members know of any avaliable kits. I will do a little research of my own and see what i can come up with.
Well dont bother compiling a kit of your own... that can be extremely frustrating.
