Soon to be a new 08 Eclipse owner!
Hello! I'm very interested in buying a brand new 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT in the orange paint job they offer. I just have a few questions to ask and I hope some can answer me. Before I can head to the dealership, I want to have some research under my belt so I can haggle a bit to get the price of the car into the 21K-22K range from it's 23,499 MSRP. Do you think it will be possible?
Next, I wish to LIGHTLY mod the car with minor performance upgrades and exterior modifications. In the next year or so, will there be a CAI, exhaust, and camshafts upgrades? And will there be body kits to give the car a special look to it that will turn heads. Plus, will the top of the line Viper alarm system be able to be install on the car?
Thank you for all your answers!

You can install a viper on ANYTHING.
I think its doubtfull you will be able to get them down that much... BUT, anything is possible.. so go for it! You have nothing to lose.

Then you might be able to pull it off.
Give it a shot man!
Salesman are intimidated by people that stand their ground. The more you let him change your mind.. the more he will take advantage

I live in Minnesota and have been to 3 dealers in the last week or so. I was looking at the exact car you mentioned and I managed to talk one dealer down from 23.9 to 22,000. I just about walked away with it, but I think I would probably get tired of the sunset color, i'm a huge fan of Black.
My neighbor was a used car salesmen for like 10 years, he says it totally depends on the dealership and how long the car has been on the lot. Most dealerships have 90 days to get it off the lot before they move it somewhere else, if its getting close to 60 days on the lot they will likely give 2,000 off the msrp. Although, some dealerships these days are doing the no haggle BS, if you are in a situation like that, unless you are comfortable paying an extra 1,000 bucks, just walk away.
Car buying and haggling is an art, if you walk in confident and know what the car is worth to you, you can usually get them down. The strategy that has worked best for me, is just straight up low ball the heck out of them. If they have it stickered at 24,000, tell him you would walk with it this very instant for 21,000. If he doesn't bite, ask him what the best deal he can get you is, and you'll think about it. It also depends how high up the salesmen is, if they can authorize that much of a discount, lower end guys sometimes only have like 800 bucks to work with.
