Default "Carputer"

Anyone know how to install such a device? ROM drives, mobo, sound hookups, power supply interface screen? I've seen it done on some vehicles, and I thought that is what my car is needing. I was thinking about using a plain laptop with a vid out, but from there, I dunno. How would I give the thing power, output sound to all the speakers, and get the surround effect for movies, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

you could always put another battery in the trunk to run off of, with a power converter, you have to have that to run a laptop off a wall socket anyway right, i think........ i know you can get laptops with speaker outputs, and the vid output, other than that i dont have a clue.... seems to be a custom job youd have to do yourself and figure out how to set everything up, and if there are any problems, again solutions youd probly have to come up with yourself.........

I think I found what I was lookin for... and at a reasonable price:

http://www.xenarcdirect.com/detail.a...DUCT_ID=700TSV

http://www.xenarcdirect.com/detail.a...DUCT_ID=MP-FL8 maxed out...

Now, the big question, how will I wire the speakers, and get em to use that 6channel surround. Heck, might even make is 6.1 if I add a small sub for a little extra rumble watching movies.

It can be done and probably less than a real computer. Check out this Galant...

Also you can just do a modded Xbox.

here is how i would do it. i would buy a new slim laptop. take out the glove box. put the laptop in the glove box are so when you open what looks like the glovebox it is actuly a laptop. then i would run headphon to av jack from the laptop to a sterio deck that has av jack inputs. as for the video i would put a lcd screen in the stering wheel and use the laptops s-video out to display it wil a touch pad on the sterring whell dash or by the shifter "personal preferance where it is placed" or you could just hook up a touchscreen that pluges into the s-video and the usb ports. not that hard of a setup. and it has two monitors the one in the glove box and the other wherever you want to install it.
