Ok i got a new system for my 97 eclipse. When I was driving, the right rear speaker cut out. When I went to check it out, it ends up being the 10yr old factory headunit. Now I'm wondering if I blew the channel, or is there some way of like resetting it. Its sending out a signal, but at full power, its barely possible to hear it(even when I put the balance and fade to that speaker)...

My view is that i did possibly drained too much power out of the channel since the speaker does require a decent amount of power to run....80watts nominal 300 max... I know that the factory amp is only putting out 180w max, so its definetly not enough...I'm pretty sure the minimum for ALL of the speakers total is about 250w and max would be around 750w....So all in all i was just wondering if there was a simple way of maybe fixing it...if not i'll find a way around it for the time being.



sorry...another question, not a problem for now, but one of my kenwood amps has a broken rca connector. I have looked around, but no one seems to have the part i need....its no biggie, but just wondering if anyone knew where to get something like that...its a KAC-606.

well if no one else replies guess I will... I can only think of checking continuity of the speaker wire. Do disconnect from the speaker, as continuity will read through the voice coil. It may be a positive short to ground. Check all wire connections, reverse polarity and such. you might find a screw piercing the speaker wire or something.

 

Well i decided to check which section of the wire was bad. The first section I checked was the wire going from the factory headunit to the factory amp. I cut a piece of the rubber away from the wire and connected another speaker. The same thing happened. So to make sure it was the headunit, i checked another set of wires and it did work. So its definetly the channel, I was just wondering if there was an easy way to maybe fix it because right now I don't have the money to be buying a new headunit. Like I said before, I did put bigger speakers in the back and they do require more power to run normally than the factory amp is putting out, so I may have drained too much power out of it. But since I don't know for sure, I figured here would be a good place to ask.
