Default Tyres on the Outlander 2011

Hi from Cape Town S.Africa.
Can any of you assist. The standard tyres on my Outlander are Bridgestone Dueller 225/55 R18. Good enough for the road but because of the semi low profile one can feel every dip and bump. However my main concern was off road. Last year my wife and I spent two and a half weeks travelling right around Namibia, 4000km off road and 2000 on tar. Although the dirt roads are quite good some ar not and the rims took a bit of a pounding due to the low walled tyres. I have spoken to tyre companies in Cape Town and they have come up with one or two solutions but every time the rim size is a problem due to the outer diameter of the tyre and it limits my choice very much.
Any one have experience of this?

Thanks for your interest. I can get different rims without problem but the tyres to fit do not come out at the same diameter as the Bridgstones. Mitsubishi tell me that the diameter is important due to the speedo readings or something.

The alternate tire size with the same diameter is 215 / 70 x 16" rim.

This is the size we use for winter driving it give much more sidewall for absorbing the many potholes we have in our roads in winter.

to test for size use this program

Tire size calculator

Default Outlander tyres

It has been discussed before but you can fit 235/70/16 and have your speedo reading exactly. Thats what I run.

Hi, I have seen someone in the Pretoria area with a set of 16 inch 5 spoke Lancer mags (almost the same as the Outlander mags) with 235/70/16 tyres, it looked good. I have recently put a set of 18'' x 8.5j mags on my Outie with Kumho KL51 235/55/18 tyres, it looks damn good but I'm loosing almost 2 kilometers to the litre with the slightly bigger tyres. try not to go too wide and try keeping your overall diameter to about 703.00 mm.
