i actually thought about this way back when before i knew anything about eclipses and cost of customizing. it would be cool IMO BUT the cost of it would not justify the benefit. it will be heavier, hella expensive for the custom work, extra paint, you'll have lines in your roof.... true it would be cool just for uniqueness but i probably wouldn't do it.... this is kinda like the project of putting a targa top in a hardtop coupe... the cost doesn't justify w/ the custom work, roll cage, extra suspension, and extra body suport... but i'm not shooting you down by any means i thought like this once also. lol

I've wondered that too!! I know exactly what you're talking about too I think.. not like a HARD TOP (expensive, heavy, etc) but like the ones they make for say the S2000s?? I've wondered that too it'd be a lot of custom work sure but I'm sure someone would love to get their hands on something like that (for the money i'm sure) but more people like us that are interested in such things!
Is this what you were talking about?? Just snaps on?

that actually could be a money making idea right there...it reduces the weight of your spyder dsm...

if he is thinking what i was thinking way back when. he's talking about a motorized hard top like the Mercedes coupes. making it more expensive and a $hitload of custom fabricating.

I dont see it reducing weight. At all. You would STILL need the motor to pull it down, but youve now added the weight of the metal roof instead of the cloth.

if you read my post in the beginning... it will ADD weight. HARD top = heavier. heaver = larger motor needed to retract it. larger motor = heavier.
