1G Eclipse help needed!

I've got a 94 Eclipse GS 2.0 N/T and i'm getting backfiring every time i touch the gas from an idle. its like the engine isn't reacting quick enough. Im guessing Timing is off...any other guesses?

sounds like too much gas is being put through, and not enough being burned.
Valve timing. But that shouldnt change.
Your ****s no winding up quick enough. Chuck a turbo on it.
