I have recently purchased a 2006 Lancer RalliArt and it came with 205/50/R16s. I bought a brand new set of 225/60/R16s for my last car not ever a year ago. My question is can I put my old tires on the new cars rims without any drawbacks or issues? I'm not mechanically inclined at all so any info would be much appreciated. TIA.

 

the 225/60 have a slightly taller sidewall, so if you're already cutting it close on arches or steering stops, not a good idea.
the wider tyres will also decrease your fuel milage. personally, on that car, unless you're running the 1.8T and manual box, you don't have enough power to put on bigger paws, so no point, except that you've already paid for them.

asides from that, there should be no issue physically doing it.

 

I'm not sure if I have enough room since the wheel wells do look a little low, but it could be enough. Again, I'm no expert lol. My apologies. As far as I know it's a stock RalliArt 2.4L engine with 164hp, guessing that's not enough HP? I had the tires on a 97 intrepid (much lower power to weight ratio I'd imagine). Also, I doubt the lancer is lowered or anything, as far as I know it's completely stock. And as for steering stops I assume you mean if my current tires rub or anything or the sort. As far as I can tell I can turn my wheel all the way left and right and turn corners or u turns without any weird sounds or feel or anything like that. I took a pic (sorry it's very dark right now and I boosted the exposure just to get it light enough to see the rubber and the wheel well). But only reason I ask is my old tires are all weather and seem like they would be superior in the winter compared to whatever is on there now. Thanks again for your input. that looks like plenty of room. i'd wear out the current tyres, then put the 225s on, but if you want them for winter then do that, although the handling will be sloppier.

Theres an encyclopaedia to be written about size vs torque vs aspect ratio vs hp.
Youll break your engine before you reach the limits of the 225s, assuming theyre good rubber.

 

Thanks for the advice. I don't really race around or anything so I'd imagine it would be fine to put them on in the winter if needed. And one more question if I could.. What do you mean I'd break my engine before I reached the limits of the 225s? Like, if I was racing around and taking hard corners at high speeds etc? The tires are Infiinitys. They were listed for about 198 a piece so idk if that's a lot since these are my first two cars and I've never had anything to compare too. They look nice and have a sweet looking tread but besides that I can't decipher if they are good tires or just cheapies. I got them from the local small town Big-O-Tire so I could have been ripped of a bit lol. Again, please excuse my lack of knowledge and what I'm sure are very simple questions to most car enthusiasts.
