Default 95 eclipse that lacks power after running awhile

i gotta problem and i don't wanna guess at it. i want it fixed. when i drive my 95 eclipse a long distance it starts to loose power and i can't get it over 40 mph. i asked one person my dad and he says it is probably the fuel filter clogged up. but i want ya'lls opinion so hit me up at kmatuse72@sc.rr.com. any info is greatly appreciated. thanks

That doesnt make sense, because the filter should still be clogged when you drive it the next time. If it was the filter then you would never be able to get it over 40. When is the last time you changed your oil. You would be suprised what dirty oil can do to a car.

WELL I CHANGED MY OIL AND FILTER RIGHT TIME I GOT THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON TOO AND I GOT THAT CHECKED OUT AND IT SAYS IT HAS A IGNITION PROBLEM. I JUST REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.

this may seem a little random but you might check your air filter. I dont think that an air filter would prohibit you from getting over 40 but it could contribute to the problem. When did you get your car, and how many miles are on it.

the car is a 95 and i just got it like a month ago and it has 137000 miles on it. i have not changed the air filter yet but i am doing a major tune up on it. i mean i can get it over 40 but it feels like its struggling to do that. it backfires when i change gears too. when i get home and let it sit for about and hour it cranks up fine. you think there might be trash or water in my gas?

do the tune up first, replace your filter / filters....if it is fuel, your engine will "hop" during acceleration.

Deff not te cayt but may be your o2 sensors, also check you tps, and mas. The 95 420a's are notorious for having electrical problems.
