96 Mirage S takes too much gas
Hey everyone,
I am new here and to cars in general, I had a friend tune up my car because it was idling wierd a couple of months ago, ever since then the car started consuming too much gas, double what it used to take. I asked my friend and he said it could be that he advanced the timing a bit to give it more power (according to my request) but the few extra horse power aint worth all that gas for me. I also use premium gas for that car and just today I learned that thats probably stupid of me and I should consider looking up what the car requires, I looked all over the internet and couldnt come up with any info.
-Does anyone have any ideas what could possibly be the problem with the gas intake? could it be just the timing?
-Should I go back to using regular fuel instead of premium?
any input is highly appreciated. thanks

Hey mirager welcome to the mitsubishi forum.

1st with premium it just has a higher octane level than unleaded nothing diff just with premium it would burn slower thus giving you extra miles to clock you would usepremium also ifyouare running a turbo but with a non-turbo engine it doesn't matter which you use just if you have the extra money go premium.

With your other problem it could also by the oxy sensor thats died and could make the car run richer as well or like your friend said the timing. Hope this helps just gives you another idea of what could be making you car use more fuel than it was.
