Hey! I was wondering what this anoyying *** sound was in my engine! It sounds like somebody is knocking on the hood of my car and it gets faster the faster I go. I've looked everywhere in the enginebay and everything looks good. Somebody said that It might me a lifter or something like that! If anybody knows anything then please help! You can clean the lifters if you please, but after a while the noise will just come back. You can also replace them if you like. I think its like $11 apiece....correct me if I'm wrong anybody. Finding the one that ticks is your problem.

 

<FONT color=black>Yeah, $11 sounds right. I think DSMer's get a discount on lifters at conicelli, but maybe not on the 3g's. My dad had a way to find the ticking valve, it was simple and involved taking off the valve cover and doing something else....i just can't remember....</FONT>

You can check lifters by using a screw driving. Place the screw driver end on lifter area and then place your ear on the handle. Or you can go buy a tool for doing this. I prefer the old fashioned way that my dad taught me its also CHEAP.....lol [8D]

 

i had the same problem but ended up having to rebuild my engine...... that was fun..... mine were 2 of the lifters and the bearing in the crankshaft... steel shavings through the whole engine..... god bless imports.... hahaha.....
