The only plausable answer is, just cause. lol

That has to be the most pointless thing ever. The car struggles to make power through the FWD drivetrain. I wonder what the whp of the AWD drivetain would be LOL! Like... 65hp... ROCKIN!

Kids got balls.... i have a 420a, auto that i love to death, and im a few of the ones who believe that squeezing power out of it its possible...... but even i think... that awd? for such a fragil engine.... i mean.... i... i dunno, SILVER!!! is this possible???

RE: CONVERT TO awd

There isn't any AWD tranny to connect to the 420a though. The only way to make a 420a Eclipse into an AWD one is to remove the old motor and replace it with a 4g63 and it's AWD components.
Man, what you get out of that motor in stock form is enough to get the car moving at it's current rate of speed. Even if there were AWD components that could connect to the 420a, it would just lose more power due to drivetrain loss/parasitic drag while cruising. You'll need a strong enough motor to pull/push a car along and ~118ish to the wheels isn't enough bro.

After typing this, I just saw Sebz post and I agree.

As for making a FWD Eclipse AWD, yes, you'll need to remove the FWD gas tank and replace it with a GSX/TSi AWD gas tank, replace the rear suspension components, replace the center bracket along the tunnel in favor of the AWD bracket for the carrier bearing, drill the holes for the rear suspension (already premade holes just need to be punched out), that's it in a nutshell.
Easy? Define easy and tell us your level of mechanical skill. Motor swap easy? Yes, if you know what you're doing and obviously no, if you don't, lol.
Worth the time and effort to do that motor swap in an Eclipse? IMO, no. There are already Eclipses that are AWD and turbo. If there's something that was done to your current car...take it off and put it on that GSX that you're eyeballing. Will it save you time, headache, and money to just swap? No, unless you have a garage with an TIG welder, plasma cutter, a lift, and of course the other tools. For Joe Schmoe, it will be a chore and it will annoy the begebeez out of you. Then if it's your daily driver, lol, you're SOL and you better buy a season pass bus ticket.
If you're just looking for around 250-ish to the wheels, slap on a turbo kit to your 420a, a large one to keep from burning rubber when you should be moving. That will bring you up to $3k-$4k (for a larger turbo). Add on to that the cost of stiffer motor mounts (or DIY), an LSD (to keep traction), stiffer shocks/springs (obvious), and if you want more power, add an upgraded fuel system, forged internals, valves, springs, lifters...and the list goes on.
I too believe there can be power made from the 420a and I too agree that the 420a is a weak motor.....in stock form as just about any motor is. Sure it will take more money to make it as fast as.....(insert car here)....but that's only because it starts out as a non-turbo car.
Is it a waste of time? Not if there's value in the owners head/heart.

WTF? How did I get on this soapbox?

A general rule of thumb... if you have to ask a question about it being possible... you shouldnt attempt it.

wow dude this is just a retarded statement...please do some reasearch. there isnt much of a point to trying to get "mad" HP out of the 420a. Just buy a gsx. Im so tired of these threads where people cant use a search to find the same answer thats asked 923480234897 times a week
