Id say, in the car world... you pay for what you get. Im sure if we could get a closer look at the welds at the one Jon showed you and the small things like that youd see a difference, weight and strength of the materials, etc...

Don't go cheap on the car because you might regret it also going with a brand name will save you the headache.

i wouldnt do it. You kdont really gain much by shortening the rod. And you ruin it by doing it. If you want to you can and it shoud work fine. Just not something i would suggest. Its your car though

I bought one of those cheep "short" shifters and may end up cutting it down to an exceptable size. The **** end is much longer than I was hopeing for but otherwise it seems ok for now. Just be aware you get what you pay for.

Last Christmas my brother bought me a short shifter for my Lancer on EBAY, and it only cost him about $50. I had it installed, and it will be almost a year that i've had it in. I have had no problems with it so far. I do not personally trust EBAY, but this item happened to work out for me. As far a cutting it, my friend's brother had a VW and cut the shifter on it to make it a "short shifter" and cut it too short and it looks bad, and he has trouble shifting it because of that.
