Evo VII misfire, the Gods hath forsaken me!
Hello all
Firstly, yes,I'm a Brit so please excuse the strange sense of humour!
My problem (with the car...*s****er*) is this:
I have a 2001 import Evo VII in standard spec. The problem I have is a random misfire that only appears to occur on motorways (freeways) or long, straight roads. The misfire causes the trip computer to drop the car into "limp home mode" and on pulling over, the engine runs very ragged. If the engine is switched off and restarted after 10-20 seconds, everything is back to normal.
I have had it looked over countless times by the Ralliart specialists at Mitsubishi UK and they can only find the trip computer giving back a general misfire fault code (think it was E301).
Sometimes the car will go 200 miles without a problem, other times it will only go a few hundred yards.
I can't put it down to any specific set of circumstances such as weather, temperature or driving style as the fault cannot be replicated on demand!
It also, for some perverse reason, only shows up the fault when I'm driving,it won't do it for either the mechanics or my fiancee!
I use the power available from the car but don't thrash it and my driving is a mixture of town and motorway driving. I never use it for short journeys and only use high quality premium gas.
What we've replaced so far in a bid to cure the problem is:
Plugs
HT leads
Timing belt
Air filter
Crank case pressure sensor
Mass airflow sensor
and to be honest,I'm running out of cash!
I hope someone out there can suggest what the problem might be before I need to see a shrink!
Thanks for your help
