Default Haunted Eclipse GS

1999 Eclipse GS automatic, new PCM, O2 sensor, cam shaft sensor, crank shaft sensor, runs great for about seven miles, go up steep hill, starts to stutter and CEL comes on, from then on tach goes crazy jumping up and down, car bucks, backfires and does not have any speed. Techs at garage checked wiring connectors, everything okay. PCM did refuse to read. Pick up car runs great for about 300 miles then starts back in again. Help please.

Is the symptom related to the up/downhill? It could well be the fuel pump related issues. You need to check for bubbling/pressure drop in fuel delivery line when you go uphill.

If somebody previously played with the fuel tank and replaced/modified fuel system components it could result in this sort of problem. See if there's a difference running the car with near empty and full tank.
Let us know of your discoveries.

CEL stands for Check Engine Light, BTW.
Could you read the codes out? I guess not, but guarantee it was fuel related, almost sure.

hey man i have the exact same car and had the exact same problem. not so much the hill thing though just driving. i also had the engine light on. so i went to auto zone to have them to a check. the codes came up that i had a misfire in a cylinder. so what i did is replaced all 4 spark plugs and the wire set/connecters. the stuttering stopped and runs smooth. so check those 2 things out if you havnt done those yet.

Now I have a new problem, get in car to come to work, no power at all, with key in off position engine compartment fuse box buzzing near the fan and headlight fuses. Turn key in on position buzzing stops. My son is checking for shorts etc.
BTW the codes were reading misfire in number one cylinder, replaced coil and still reads that code. We also changed fuel filter but car was acting this way before it was replaced.
One tech told me that they had a Sebring with the 420A motor acting the same, theyreplaced the engine still did not fix problem, the car went to the scrap yard, I really do not want to do that.
Thanks again to everyone.

well what i did after i replaced the plugs and wireset is i was working on the car, and i disconnected the battery. i connected it and got in the car and realized the CEL was off. so see if that works. you might have to reset the codes too perhaps.
