HELP, white smoke
A hydrocarbon test is to check for combustion gases in the cooling sysyem. A local shop should be able to do the test for you.
Is it white smoke or steam? Steam will dissipate more quickly and you can feel the moisture when you put your hand behind the exhaust pipe. White smoke is burning oil. I'm having a similar problem where mine intermittently leaves white smoke when taking off and I'm fairly sure it's bad valve seals as has happened on my sportbike before. OHC engines seem to be more prone to it than OHV engines. I'd expect it to smoke all the time if it had bad rings. Nevertheless, check your oil as I find myself having to add some frequently.
