I need help with a 97 eclipse RS
I just bought the car (97 RS) it stalled on the test drive which is strange being an automatic.
I thought nothing of it assuming that it was a bad plug-wire-coilpack........so I spent the little xtra got an msd pack, taylor wires, ngk plugs......but still with the stalling!
Yes the car has 133000 miles on it but it runs strong any ideas what it could be?
more specifically could it be the IAC?
another problem I have is when I take off in a hurry sometimes the power steering goes out.
I'm new to mitsu
so any help would be appreciated.
thanks
troy

How does the car run at idle (rpms?). As far as the power steering going out, you might have either a bad pump or a bad belt. First i would just inspect the belt, see if it looks worn

ok your idle is set a bit low i think. Either that our you have a leak around you intake manifold. But im gonna go with the idle setting. There is a screw called the Base Idle Set Screw (BISS). Its usually located somewhere on the throttle body. You have to adjust that to raise the rpms to around 850 at warm idle

I will check on that
another idea that I had was could it be the vaccum hoses
or excess carbon build up ont he throttle body
but I took your advice and I have a timing belt on the way as well as a serpentine.....on that note I have read other posts and gathered that I have to change the water pump as well?
and finally while I have you reading this..........thanks for the help --------------you are cool as hell in my book.

As for the power steering going out... I would assume you notice this by trying to turn on a quick take off. This is torque-steer, it's normal and common in FWD cars. My 97 RS does it all the time.
