I have a mitsubishi toppo and if this helps if i switch off the car without putting car in park and pulling on hand break they key won’t release also will not release if i do not put hand break on , I was in a hurry one day and forgot to put in park before switching car off and key wouldn’t come out , i turned car off and on several times and put it and out of gear and it still wouldn’t release the key so while still on i put car in park pulled up handbreak turn car off and key released also if car in park and hand break not on key won’t release so I think its a safety thing
