Default Knock in motor

My 96 Eclipse GS has a knock in the motor when you give it a little gas while in
park. At idle it runs smooth with out the knock, but give it just a little and you can hear the knock. As you take up the rpm's it seems to be less consistent, but it's still there. Now when you drop it in gear you don't hear it until you let off the gas and then you can barley hear
it. I'm going to try to get in to it this weekend so any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

did you put the wrong grade gas in it? if you put anything less then 92 octane you will get knocks and pings. If I where you berore you tear the engine apart go down to discount auto and buy so grease lightning fuel system cleaner. this stuff says it last 12000 miles between bottles and I beleave them. My dad's truck was running rough and stalling out then we added the grease lightning fuel system cleaner and I runs like brand new. Hope this helps you out.

Update on Knock. Tried fuel, No help. Checked timing and found it to be 1 tooth off. But that was not it. I attempted to locate with a long screwdriver (I should have started there) and found it in the bottom end. I pulled the oil pan and found that 1,2, and 3 rod bearings had play, but #1 was the cause of the Knock. I will pull all 4 off this Saturday to see to what extent the damage to the crank may be. Thanks for your help and advice.

Well, it was worse than I thought it would be. 1,2, and 3 were ate up. So now I have no choice but to pull the crank. But this is where I need a little help. Can the crank be removed without pulling the motor? If not, then could you tell me what kind of time frame is involved in pulling the motor. I am probably going to just replace the crank. The measurements that I got with the mic showed that #1 was worn by .0284 and the wear gradually decreases as you go down to #4. I thought about getting the crank ground, but I was having a bit of a problem finding the proper bearings for what it would have to go to. Any and All help would be greatly appreciated on this. Thanks in advance.

You don't have to pull the motor, but you do have to remove the accessory belts to get to the crank sprocket. And you'll have to pull the tranny to get to the fly wheel off.
