Default MY 2002 ECLIPSE PROBLEM

My wife blew a football size hole in the side of her engine block of her2002 eclipse gs. the good news is i found an identical engine with only 20k miles on it. i swapped out the engine and it fired up on the first try, and the car runs like brand new again. so whats the problem right...... well the car will not go into gear. it is an automatic transmition, and yes i bolted the flywheel to the tourqe converter. the transmition still is full of transmition fluid, and when the engine blew the car glided to a stop, there was no tire lock up or anything. if anyone has an idea please let me know. thank you

Try next to the gear shifter itself...should be a tiny "lid" that you pop open. Get in that and move the "switch??" Can't remember what this is called..Damn brain fart!

To bypass the shift interlock switch

I know this sounds dumb, but is the linkage hooked up?

OK. I tried that and yes the linkage is hooked up. the problem isn't the shifter i can move the shifter into drive, reverse, and neutral, but the car goes nowhere. when i shift into these gears the engine idols up like it is ready to take the load of the gear from the trans. should shift into but nothing happens.
