New Heater Core but still leaking antifreeze!?
Hi,
I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante that was showing all the classic signs of a bad heater core. Paid someone over $900 to replace it, but now it seems as though it is still leaking antifreeze on the passenger side floor. I've had the car back for over a week andtried small measures that I know will not clean it up completely but should at least help, but doesn't seem to be doing so.
My question is, is there other issues that could cause the coolant to leak on the floor? Or is it more likely the mechanic just didn't do something right. The person I took it too even said he had trouble with the whole job, but mainly with putting the dash back together. I just don't want him telling me that whatever its doing now, has nothing to do with the heater core and charge me more money to fix it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Check all hoses, maybe you have a pinhole in one of them that's spraying fluid back onto the firewall and it's leaking in...my guess is that he didn't tighten something up properly.
yea the only other thing it would be is the hoses going to the heater core. Which if i was the person repairing the core, i would have checked those hoses while i was at it
hello! have you looked into the coolant resivoir to actually see if your low on coolant?? if the resivoir is empty or a few inches low then i'd say yeh your leaking somewhere. if the resivoir is still full, then i would look at pulling out the carpet and the insulation under it. i have done many of these heater core jobs and some people let it leak so long the whole floor pan gets filled with coolant. that smell will never go away if you dont clean it out. good luck, greg...
Thank you everyone for your responses. I had to take it back this weekend, they said the heater core itself was faulty so they just re-did the whole job. I didn't think that was the case because the car wasn't smoking anymore, just leaking. So we will see. This whole thing is just really a nightmare.
