Default No Spark

94 Expo LRV 2.4L 115k (tranny rebuild @ 60k)

Died in the interstate (70mph) in complete downpour. Shuttered for 2 seconds then was fine for 15 seconds. Shuttered for another 2 seconds then was fine for 10 more seconds. Then completely lost power as it died. Not overheating. No dummy lights.

Fuel but no spark. Replaced plugs, cap and rotor. No Spark. Rotor is spinning. Threads on new spark plugs had oil on them, but not on tip (when pulled for last spark test). Air movement out of spark plug port (correct term??) during every spark test. No Spark.

[Synthetic] oil (2,000 miles old) is dark and semi-translucent but not black and no smell of anti-freeze in oil. Replaced fuel filter 2,000 miles ago. Replaced air filter 2,000 miles ago.

I have all of the basic tools and enough know-how to get to a destination if I have landmarks on my way to the destination, but I have more time than money - - and limited time on that.

Questions, comments, criticism, concerns, declarations of heresy?

More than likely it is the distributor. Try a used one, they are too much $$$ new for a good guess.
