Figuratively speaking, what would be a fair price for an autobody shop to charge for giving a 1996 Galant a standard black paint job. Nothing else, nothing fancy, just shiny black paint. (my car's current paint is sun-damaged in places and uneven)

I'm asking because the local shop in town wanted to charge me 2,000 dollars. I don't know if they were messing with me, but the price seemed a little bit steep...
