Default Short in electrical system??

My daughter has a 2000 Diamante, fully loaded, which she bought from only the second owner (the first being that proverbial little old lady!) over a year ago. Granted, it does have a lot of miles, about 120,000. It still runs really well, the pick-up is great, smooth ride, etc. HOWEVER, there seems to be some kind of a leak in the sunroof or somewhere else. There was actually water in the fuse box! Now, the electrical system seems to be all messed up. The brake lights work, but not the rear running lights, all of a sudden all but the driver's window stopped working, etc. The latest 'trick' is that the alarm system goes off for no reason. Well, not the full alarm system, but the horn beeps once, then a pause, then maybe 2 more beeps, pause, beep, etc. You get the idea .

My big question is - is it worth it to take it to a dealership and have them look at it? I had one mechanic, a good one at that, spend a few days trying to see where the problems were, and give it back, NO CHARGE, saying it was all very frustrating, but he couldn't fix anything!

I might add that the car has new tires, new brakes, and the body is in good shape - just a few dents here and there - no rust or anything else bad.

SUGGESTIONS??

As you can see, this is my first post here. I joined to see if anyone has had similar problems. Is the electrical system touchy on this car, or are we just unlucky?

Thanks, Mrs. P

Default Electrical problems in general???

OKAY - Let me put it another way -- Is it common with Mitsubishi cars to have electrical system problems? A coworker told me she had a Mitsu and had to replace the entire fusebox. Here's the kicker with my daughter's car - water has been found in the fusebox now.

Time to unload it??
