Starter problem

Hi,

I have a 2G Spyder GS. The thread on one of the bolts that holds the starter in place has smoothed out so the starter vibrated loose. We re-fastened it tonight but the mechanic told me that I would need to have a permanent fix done ASAP.

He said that the starter is fine, but that I'll need to replace it anyway because the threads that fasten it are attached and can't be purchased separately. I'm just trying to find out if this is BS, or if not, how much it will cost me for a starter. I went to the site I usually price parts with, rockauto.com, but couldn't find "starter" anywhere so I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks...

RE: Starter problem

Do u mean the bolts that hold the starter stripped out? Try using a tap and die set and see if you cant try and clean the threads out?

RE: Starter problem

use duramix from napa. fill the hole with it use new bolt put it in wait for it to dry and wrench it out. it'll make new threads and be fine it dries in less than 1 min.
