What controls shifting in a 92 Mirage?

] First time I posted here Im looking forward to it,
I have a 92 Mitsubisihi Mirage 1.5 ltr with FA 3 speed with OD Transaxle and I am having hard shifting into 2 and 3rd gear and same hard downshifting. Every once in while it will lock in 3rd gear but once I stop and let the car sit it fixes itself. I was wondering from the experts out there if anyone could tell me what might cause this problem. I don't think its the transaxle itself (But could be) just maybe some type of control module or something... Any Idea?? Where should I start looking??? Please be specific, I am not an tranny expert.... Help help.. Thanks
