Will my 2001 mirage survive a road trip
Hello everyone, I am the owner of a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage SE with only 68,000 miles on it and I'm planning on taking an 8-hour road trip from Chicago to Tennessee in a few months. My car is in fairly good condition, in my opinion, but my parents are worried that it won't withstand the trip. I wanted to get a more professional opinion, considering I don't know much about cars:
What kinds of things should I look at and make sure are functioning properly before going? What should I be worried about? & in which case, would it be wrong to take my car for an 8-hr drive?
Thank you.

What is the overall condition of the vehicle? Has it been maintained? (regular oil changes, recommended services like tune ups, transmission services, cooling system service, brake service, etc? What is the condition of the tires? If you dont know, I would recommend you find a place that has a free or complementary multi-point inspection and take it there, just to make sure those things are ok. With only 68k, I would not be too concerned as long as you check the things mentioned first.
Are your parents automotive mechanical engineers?
Yes: Listen to them
No: Tell them to shut up.
In your trunk:
Cigarette lighter compressor
Can of fix-a-flat
Tire plug kit
Basic metric tools (1/4" socket set for $10 is fine)
Pliers
Electrical tape/duct tape
Zip ties/hose clamps
Gallon of 50/50 coolant
1 quart of oil
Gas can
Jack & handle
2 jackstands
Fix all leaks, check all four tires, diagnose any check engine lights, then go on your way. You'll be fine, I've made trips twice that length in cars with 4-5 times the mileage with no trouble.
