Default 2000 mirage trans

2000 mirage trans, F4A42. side mount oil pan got bumped. got seal leak. figured i'd change filter while i was at it. pulled pan, don't see an internal filter. looked around, don't see an external screw-on filter either (see where it's supposed be on case, but it has not been ported for screw-on filter). anyone know anything about this? also, what type of non-MITSU ATF to use to refill? thanx for the asssist. pops55

There isn't a servicable filter that's accessable through the pan. There is one that should be replaced during rebuilds, but the case needs to be split to access it. Earlier models of the same generation did have a screw on filter in area you mentioned but was later deemed "unneccesary". I recommend using a good quality FIPG to seal the pan and refilling with Genuine FACTORY Mitsu SPIII ATF or Genuine Factory Chrysler ATF+4- do not use anything claiming to be compatible- etc. Trust me on this one. There are TSB concerning shift flair's or shuddering due to premature wear of the TCC due to incompatible fluids. Good Luck!

thought that might be the case on the filter, so i drained oil, resealed pan, refilled w/castrol atf+3 from local jobber for the time being. only fluid available due to delivery backlog on trucks coming to south TX because of hurricane RITA. plan on flush ASAP @ dealer. thx for the advice.
