my buddy is thinking about buying a 98 eclipse rs and plans on turboing it in the future. good or bad idea? he said he would do interals

Bad idea, it would be alot cheaper to buy a gst or gsx and built it up. Even after you spend over 3k to turboa 420a, it would have the same power as a gst.

Not a good idea since the 420a isn't a very reliable engine, I would go w/ a 1gen or 2gen gst or gsx.

Yeah I know and the fact they are also known for head gaskets too.

Thats only because they werent clamped enough. 90% of them have been changed now so thats not an issue.

Ok well since its not an issue anymore and if you do in the direction of turboing it make sure the engine is mechanically in good shape to handle the upgrade.

Its probably a better to get a 1gen or 2gen gst/x and go w/ that, much more cost effective just like what everyone else said.

I would recommend the same thing, because with a na car and turboing it, it make it more diffcult to sell. Because the car came non turbo and modding it with a turbo will attract less buyer {most people don't like a car that is highly modified by a unknown person} and a gst/gsx already have a turbo with it stock.
