yeah, I doubt it would fit in the lancer either even though it is a 4 cyl.....but might fit in all other models. you could probable cram a vw 1.9 tdi in a lancer though.

It wasnt the cylinder amount, as much as the displacement that tells me it wouldnt fit into the Lancer engine bay. Not a fan of VW though... (except the Scirroco) but I could see that fitting with some large amount of fabrication being done

I hear ya. The Lancer is pretty sweet on gas anyway, I don't think it would be that tough of a swap for the vw tdi but it's not really economically feasible unless you already have a blown motor and really want to go diesel.

Theres a distinct possibility that soon the cost of the TDi conversion may balance out due to rising gas prices. lol

SHUT UP!!! everybody is here to help eachother and share ideas.

50ul - that was a sh**ty comment you left on the first page and if i had my way you would be suspended for making fun of somebody for no reason.

BestWiseGuy - again, everybody is here to ask questions, share ideas and learn. i started out thinking that an intercooler replaced a radiator and look at me now. it's b/c ppl are expected to have enough patience to deal with newbieness. So chill out and don't ever tell somebody else to leave the forum when you have no advise to offer.

AlZuben - we would all appreciate it if you would please use the search feature from now on and we are sorry if you get a harsh response off the bat but we get a lot of the same questions asked on a daily basis that are answered on a daly basis and we often times get sick of answering them. You havea creatve mind but no you can't drop a vr4 engine into a 2g.

Sebba - you're a cool guy and i know ur the "resident asshold" and you are for a reason but you are pushing the boundary on this one calling people harsh names and things... we are never going to grow as a forum if we have our seasoned members on here just being a dick and calling names. just tame it down a bit bro - for the newbs anyways lol

Dusty - well... for the first time EVER on this forum i think you are actually giving advise and showing some kind of knowlege... you keep this kind of attitude up and i'll hate you less and less every day, even with your 99.9% posts being post whoring posts lol

I've already done the math.

ok, let's say you are converting a lancer...just for this example. The lancer gets ~40mpg (bare with me on the numbers) while the tdi gets ~50mpg. That's an ~diff of 10mpg. If the average driver is driving 12k mi @ year then they would be burning ~300 gal petrol compared to ~240gal diesel. At roughly the same cost ~$3 a gallon for each, that's a savings of ~$180 a year. Over 5 years, that's ~$900. So, if you are driving more than 12k mi a year...or the price of gas remains steadily above diesel, then it could be a good consideration. At $0.50 difference, the savings would be ~$300 each year adding an overall savings of $2400, $900 for mileage and $1500 for difference in fuel cost....over a 5 year period. that almost offsets the cost of a used diesel engine not including new fuel lines, yada yada.

but I want to go biodiesel...putting my fuel costs at ~$0.82@ gal. massive savings!
