Default Manual Car Driving...

I have a 5 speed tranny and was at a red light the other day with a friend, and I put it in neutral and let my foot off of the clutch. My friend gave me crap for leaving it in neutral, and not putting it in 1st gear and holding the clutch in. He says that theres no harm in doing this, but I heard that this isn't so great for the tranny. I was wondering what you guys do, and if there is any harm in leaving it in first gear while holding in the clutch? Wasn't to sure where to post this...hope it's alright.

I do both at a light, put it in nuetral, the when I get to a complete stop put it in first, then other times just leave it in nuetral. I never had any problems and never heard of anything, just maybe more wear on the t/o bearing idk?

Putting it in neutral while you are going above 10 miles an hour is stupid. You use less gas by engine braking.. in fact you use zero. If that is actually what you are saying ^^

To the original poster, it really doesnt matter. The only time you harm things is when you have the clutch slightly engaged. Who the hell wants to sit with their foot on a clutch?

If you dont know how to downshift properly, you can roast your clutch a little

Yeah most of the time i just pop it in nuetral. Starts to be a pain in the *** with stop lights constantly stopping and keeping the clutch in.
