Default short shifter... & shifting problems... help

Hey people... When I first bought my car (used) it didn't really seem to have any problems with shifting. Then again, I wasn't driving it as much so I prolly didn't notice. However, lately when I'm driving I find it difficult (sometimes) to back down to 1st... it seems like it gets jammed a bit, and i have to drop it back to neutral and push it in. I've also noticed that when im shifting up to 3rd that sometimes its a bit difficult, and instead of just placing it in, i have to shove it in because if not i grind the gears. i've also found a bit of the problem shifting up to 5th. This is always when im going down to 1st, up to 3rd, and up to 5th.

Now, I found a pretty good short shifter... I was wondering (because I dont know) if buying a short shifter will replace the problem. Correct? It's prolly the shifter that isn't "ok" ... or am I wrong..? I figured "if that's the problem, then maybe a short shifter will fix it because it's replacing the old one, and it'll be better because its not the stock... it's a shorter one." ... so am i on the right track or no? and how much (average) does it cost to install a short shifter? I was also reading around and read that i should get a shifter bushing kit, is that any good?

Please help.
thanks.

That used to happen with my car and it turns out that it was just the fluid. I already had a short throw shifter, so that wasn't it. It can get hot here in Oahu and I'm sure that the heat wasn't too good on the tranny fluid. Once I changed it, it was back to smooth shifting.....
Check your fluid level first or even just change it out. It probably needs it.

k. thats what I thought. i was thinking that it was either the fluid or the clutch disc.

I had the problem a couple months ago, turned out to just be the fluid. Good luck with it!
