What are bank 1 and bank 2
This seems to be a common question as OBD2 error codes refer to bank 1 and bank 2.
the Mitsubishi Montero (non-Sport or Pajero) has a standard front to back engine position and is a V6 so I am guessing bank 1 is the right bank of 3 cylinders and bank 2 is the left bank (see below).
You can't just say one is on the passengers side because they make left hand drive and right hand drive vehicles (I have one of each! One is a Montero in USA and the other is a Pajero which is the same as the Montero in New Zealand where we drive on the left side of the road).
Also the Mitsubishi Endeavor and several other models have a similar V6 engine that is transverse mounted so one bank is at the front of the car and the other is at the back.
I found online the statement "Bank 1 refers to the side of the engine that has the number 1 cylinder. Bank 2 is the opposite side of the engine."
The firing order on the Endeavor and probably all other models is 1-2-3-4-5-6. The back bank numbered 1-3-5 and the front bank 2-4-6. So the back bank is bank 1.
On models with the standard front to back engine location cylinders 1-3-5 appear to be on the right bank (bank 1) and 2-4-6 on the left bank (bank 2). But articles online refer the "drivers side" which is not very helpful but I assume they are written in USA.
