Default Security Glitch

Good Day

About a week ago, the keyless entry system started acting strange. It wouldn't unlock the doors the way it had previously so I figured it was likely a weak battery. A new one was installed but the problem continues. Specifically, I can unlock the drivers door with one push of the unlock button but when I open the door, the horn alarm goes off. Also, when I lock the vehicle, the horn honks on the first push of the button. Previously the first push would lock all the doors and the second push would sound the horn.

I went to the dealer as they thought the key might just need to be reprogrammed. Turns out they couldn't reprogram the key. They had both keys for the vehicle and found that both were having the same problem so the weak battery explanation looks unlikely. They noticed I had some repair work done to the vehicle (16 yr old son had a minor crash with damage to front drivers side). They suggested the problem with the key was likely related to the collision as the location of the damage is where the security stuff is.

The crash happened nearly two years ago and I suspect they are going to say that the key problem is related to the crash.

Has anyone had similar problems with their key fob/security alarm. To clarify, there is no after market security system on the vehicle, just the standard one.

Thanks

Steve
