3000GT Crankshaft Pulley Removal
Hi everyone, just joined the site. I have a '94 3000GT (non-turbo) w/auto trans. Have to remove the crank pulley/harmonic balancer. I tried loosening the bolt on it (ccw, I presume) with hand tools, but it's just turning the engine along with it. I need to lock the pulley in place somehow. Is there a tool designed to do that (besides homemade)? I happen to have a chain wrench (and a strap wrench) which I was going to loop around the pulley to see if that will work. I also have an air ratchet I thought I'd try that might give it more of an instant 'oomph' than I can by hand. I've seen people actually crank the engine while leaving a breaker bar on the bolt to loosen it, but that doesn't look safe somehow to me.
I imagine once (hopefully) the bolt is off, I'll need a puller to get the pulley off the rest of the way.. Will a standard harmonic balancer puller do the trick? Autozone rents out one (OEM27019).
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
