Default 94 SL transmission

My clutch has just been gradually grabing later and later so im assuming i need to replace it and i was just wondering how hard it is to remove the transmission. I'm just kind of scared to mess with it because i know a guy that works on a lot of 3000's and he says nobody likes to mess with them so he always has to. Is this something i should be able to do in a weekend with a shop manual? Or should i just have him do it for $600? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks
