Default My 92 VR4 tranny

Now here is the thing. I have a 92 VR4 and the joker that owned it before me went all fast and furious and jacked up the tranny. All the gears are fine BUT the second gear grinds when I put it in. (unless I coast and slowly put it in) Would it be safe to say I just need a whole new tranny. Can I rebuild, adjust something or tweak something? I'm thinking of the most cost friendly solution.

Thanx, Reg
