Default NA swap in VR4? TEMP ONLY?

ok.. I know I will get flamed for this, but this is my situation... Im broke as hell.. I work in sac and live about 50 miles away.. I need a car now..

I did this with my eagle talon, and it worked good as a temp thing while I built the other motor... I took out the turbo short block and swapped in an NA motor, with the turbo stuff swapped on... it had power and was very reliable...

I am thinking about doing this to my VR4, untill I finish my 6G72 build this summer... a BAD *** one too.. lol... but I can get an SL motor for a few hundred dollars less, and bolt the turbos on to that, correct? I mean, if you think about it, the motor looks like 2 4G63's that only have 3 cylinders, split in a V.. haha...

This would be a ver cost effective solution for me, as they are cheaper, and mor abundant than the 6G72TT.. But I can still bolt on my turbos and everything else, and just keep the boost down so I dont knock...

is this a good idea? Like I said, its just untill this summer when I finish my raced out motor...

As long as you dont plan on using it for very long, i think it will be okay. Its still not good for it though. Too long and POP.

well, the only reason it would pop at 7 psi would be because of knock... if I datalog and watch to make sure im not knocking, then I wont break any pistons... and I KNOW the rods are just a tiny bit smaller then the turbo rods... unless someone has a pic of both rods.. I know they do not have oil squirters either, but I can always put them in...

as long a I do not knock and I do not turn the boost up too high, then I should be good.. I hope.. like I said, just something to drive untill I finish my motor...

is there anything I should watch out for in the non turbo motors? I plan on switching this stuff from my turbo'd motor and onto the NA motor:

turbos and manifolds
intake manifold
knock sensor
coil packs
fuel rail, fpr, and injectors (and resistor pack if it has one)
throttle body
oil pan

are there any other sensors that I should swap over or anything like that?

As long as you don't try to boost any higher than stock (8-12lbs), you should have no problems. Datalogging is a great idea.

hell yeah.... I just found an NA motor for 850 with 50,000 miles... and thats a JDM one.. I wonder if I can find a slightly higher mileage US engine for less money... that would be great.. If I can do this for under 800, then I would be stoked... anything under 1000 is still nice though.. its just going to be a pain in the **** to swap everything over...

anything else I should look for?

What year is your car? What year is the donor engine? The 91-92's has a combo crank/cam angle sensor. The 93+ had separate sensors.

Well not just knock. N/A pistsons usually like to blow ring lands : ) Thats all i fear. On stock boost you shouldnt have too much of a problem.

yeah.. I am going to keep it at stock boost for now.. I am going to make sure that the motor comes out of a 91-92 3000, because mine is a 92... I wouldnt get anything but those two years..

I know I might crack pistons in time, but if I keep the boost below 12 psi, I should be fine... I was thinking about how I was running my talon, compared to this... I ran my talon, with a reflashed ecu (KeyDriver ) at 12 psi on a stock NA motor, and it was fine.. But I know there is no telling what it will do to this.. I plan on at the most, turning it up to 10 by pulling the lil tube out of the BCS.. I did it to my boy's vr4, and it turned it up right to 10.. I think I should be able to run that as long as I dont knock, run lean, or overheat.. we shall see, though.. hopefully it will last long enough.. and if it came down to it, I could always just swap in some lower compression pistons.. its a weekend job...

Again, just a temp fix untill I build my other 6g72...

Any thing else? I just want to make sure I have everything I need, which I am pretty sure I will, because like I said, the motor litterally looks like two 4g63's, missing 1 cylinder each, and put in to a V pattern, and I did this to my 4g63...
