Need Help!
I just recently bought a 3000gt. the man i bought it from told me that he replaced the water pump just the week before i purchased it and when he did, he put the timing belt on out of time. he said it was only one tooth out of line. but when i looked at the timing belt it was way more than one tooth off. the car is a 1991 SL and has 112000 miles on it. when i bought it i replaced the air and fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, battery, brake and power steering fluid, oil and oil filter, i need to know the chances that i did any serious injury to the top end of my car, i called three mechanics, two of which were friends of the family, and all three basically told me that they would rather shoot themselves in the foot than deal with a mitsubishi that has been ran with the timing off. any help or insight as to the chances that i bent the rods or even worse damaged my pistons would help greatly. thx in advance.
Take it in and have the timing adjusted. If your timing is off you can run into serious problems that may led to a blown motor. Timing is nothing that should be played around with. When you adjust the timing that maybe the only problem. Your first step should be getting it back on time.
If by chance I do have to replace the heads, are there any aftermarket heads you can any of you can readily think of that would be a good replacement? I wouldn't mind using this as an excuse to make it faster if at all possible. My girlfriend hates the car already, especially since I upgraded the clutch and she can barely press it down now. what a weakling lol.
