Default part on transmission

ok my slave cylinder went out on me the other day i opened the hood and noticed another peice of metal that hassome rubber around it and it is attached to the tranny. the slave cylinder wasnt in it but from pics it looks like the end of the slave cylinder goes into the metal peice a lil bit. what does this do, and also its really lose is it suppose to be that lose like i can pull it away from the tranny and stretch the rubber.

That is the clutch release fork and no, it should not be able to pull out like you are describing.

i didnt think it was suppose to do that what do u think that could mean, is it something easy to fix, hope it is im short on money, can i do it myself, got to take tranny off? sorry for all the ?'s i just got to know.

Yes, you'll have to remove the tranny. The fork pivots on a ball. More than likely, the "keeper" broke off the fork.

ok if i take it to the dealer how much am ilooking at, or is it somethng i can do in the drive way with simple tools, i can probably take the tranny off but all i ahve is simple tools and i dont know much about transmissions.
