Default speedo and tach quit

It all started about 4 months ago when my tach started tweaking out. It would just start twitching for no reason. It got worse and worse until one day, it just quit. I replaced my gauge assy, and the tach still does not work. I moved the needle at 1500 rpm so when you turn the car on (acc), then the needle goes to 1500, but it does not register any actual engine rpm's. So I found out that the gauge assy is NOT bad.
....NOW... 2 months later the speedo started doing the same and ended up starting this stupidness and totally quitting in the same day. I figured it was my speed sensor on my tranny, so I checked that and it is not loose. The crank sensor would be the only other thing that I could think of, but I didn't think the crank sensor would control the speed portion of my gauges. Has anyone experienced this? any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Okay... well I went to autozone and had them hook up the OBD-II reader and they got the following codes:
0170 Fuel Trim Bank 1
0173 Fuel Trim Bank 2
0170 Fuel Trim Bank 1
0173 Fuel Trim Bank 2
0500 Speed Sensor
The wierd thing is that we got 0170 and 0173 twice. I am guessing that I have a clogged injector or two... I am not sure, but I knew about the speed sensor. I know exactly where it is located and how to take it off, but autozone does not carry it... Does anyone have any suggestions where to get it?
Thanks,

I would suspect that the best place to get the right speed sensor is at the dealership. This may fix your speedo problem but will NOT fix your tach. A failing crank sensor would more than likely also cause a few drivability issues which you have not mentioned (so i'll assume u don't have any). I have seen instances the ignition module can cause sporatic tach reading with intermittent complete loss of tach signal. As for fuel trim- since you've got codes for both banks- it's likely that you've got a problem that is common to BOTH bank. An injector will only affect 1 particular bank unless you just happen clog 2 injectors at the same time. I'd suggest looking for a vacuum leak high in the intake somewhere, etc.

Good Luck!
